In 1965, TOM COOKE (#197), created his only entry on the best match performances list, scoring 62 and taking 6-58 for A grade v Churches. His batting fell away during his 11 seasons with Waratahs. He was like Eric Smith in that regard. In this game, he batted at seven and took toll of a tiring attack. When Churches replied on the second day, he bowled long spells with Smith and tore through the tail after the middle order had threated to overhaul Waratahs first day 275. Churches top four had been or would be Waratahs men.
Extraordinarily, this was Cooke’s debut match for Waratahs!
