Tony Williams commentary

My recollection of the final is that we fielded first and won 9 wickets down off the last ball of the match.

I batted 10 and got my top score for the season of 8 not out. I got more catches at slip off Steve Broadbent during the season than I scored runs. Great leg spinner. Dave Cook was a very good keeper with a long reach.

Scores were tied on the last ball with No 11 Rod Blackshaw on strike. We conferenced before the last ball.

Simple plan. Run whatever happens.

Rod missed it. I was running as soon as it was bowled. The keeper took it cleanly and underarmed towards the bowlers end. I relaxed, no longer in danger, and just watched the ball sail over my head while I made my ground and watched Rod make it safely and continue running toward the sheds with our teammates running on in triumph. Before that I did not think I'd make it, even though I'd had the luxury of not having to wait for a call.
