John Warn is without doubt one of the favourite sons of Manly Warringah District Cricket Club.

Warny was a constant presence at the club throughout the 1990s and continued playing until his retirement following the 2005/06 season, although he has made a number of cameo appearances since. One of the most passionate and enthusiastic players in the club’s history, his love for both the game and Manly was always evident. As a captain, he created a professional environment in which players enjoyed their cricket and felt supported.

Warny was the inspirational captain of the drought-breaking 2004/05 3rd Grade premiershipwinning team. He was also a member of multiple Club Championship-winning seasons and held several volunteer positions, including Club Captain, while serving as a mainstay of the club committee for many years. His outstanding service was recognised with Life Membership in 2008.

A hard-hitting batsman, Warny represented Manly in every grade during his playing career.

In total, he scored 4,529 runs from 187 innings, including five centuries and a highest score of 108. He also took 82 catches and claimed 18 wickets with his well-flighted off-spin. He remains part of the club’s 3rd Grade record books, holding the eighth-wicket partnership record following a 133-run stand with Brian Clemow during the 2002/03 season.

Following his playing career, Warny embarked on a highly successful career in cricket administration, culminating in his appointment as Chair of the Cricket NSW Board, where he played a significant role in leading the organisation through a period of considerable success.
