Waratahs first tilt at reunion and playing in an O/40’s carnival. We won one game from five, on the last day against the eventual winners of the carnival. Despite consistency with the bat from Tim Muldoon and Rhodes and the venom of Connolly, fielding and bowling proved difficult to recapture. As was predicted, Reading broke down in his first over, Langston took little part after almost cutting his hand off in a car wash and six players damaged hamstrings. By the third day, those caring folks from St John’s asked the organisers where we we playing and set up there to save themselves walking.
We’d never had so much fun, especially the pub crawl, where Tim and Frosty showed great interest in getting to know the locals, particularly the topless barmaids and Bennett flagged down a police car, believing it was a taxi and climbed in the back seat and described his motel because he couldn’t remember the name.
