Scott Fitzimmons - Manly Warringah
Scott Fitzsimmons was a distinctive and highly effective cricketer, compiling 4,104 runs at 29.74, including 6 centuries and a highest score of 218, while also taking 39 wickets at 25.74 and 73 catches.
A multiple club championship winner, ‘Fitzy’ was a key member of the 2004/05 3rd Grade premiership side, enjoying an outstanding season in which he scored 621 runs at 47.77 and took 13 catches, mostly at slip. His batting was renowned for its unorthodox technique, with trademark strokes such as the ‘periscope’ and ‘forehand’ becoming part of his cricketing identity.
His final season in 2005/06 was equally memorable scoring 588 runs at 39, culminating in a magnificent 218 in the quarter final against Balmain (now Sydney), his career best innings. Although the team eventually fell in the semi-final that season, his performances throughout reinforced his reputation as a player capable of producing runs when they mattered most.
Beyond the statistics, Fitzy is remembered for playing the game in his own style; an unconventional batsman, reliable slip fielder and valuable all-round contributor whose personality and unique style made him a memorable figure at Manly Cricket Club.
