Greg Chambers was one of the nicest blokes and most talented batsmen I had the privilege to play with.

Greg "Master" we nicknamed Greg "Master" due to his initials being GC, and Gray Nicolls had the GC Master Single Scoop out at that time.

He and I opened the batting in our very early days for QCA Colts coached by Peter Charles (RIP) and captained by Stuart Law.

A terrific team and we were beaten by Wests in the Semi Final and they went on to become Premiers.

Greg and I also opened the batting for QLD 19s and Qld Colts the following three seasons against NSW.

For someone so talented he was very unassuming and easy going and a very popular team mate.

Besides being a very talented batter he was also exceptional in the field. I recall a funny moment playing against Wests earlier in our debut season when Greg was batting against Carl Rackemann.

Carl as he did stood the ball up on the seam and hit Greg in the groin with an off cutter and for a good five to ten minutes he was on the ground while we all stood around "laughing" as you did.

Next ball he scored a single and then I took strike and Carl did exactly the same to me only cutting it in from the opposite direction. (Greg was a lefty) I think in the space of around 15 minutes that morning only three balls were bowled and got to the point when Wests Skipper John "Dinger" Bell quite rightly said well are we going to play some cricket or do we need to stretcher you blokes off?.

Testament to Greg, and his courage he and I were able to go on and put on an opening partnership of 91 and Stuey Law came in afterwards and ripped off a classy 150 run plus score.

A true gentleman in my eyes and a tough competitor. Very saddened by this news and very proud to have been his opening partner for a short while at the very beginning of our careers.

RIP Greg, sincere condolences to your family.
